Monday 17 August 2020 marks the 25th anniversary of the passing of E.J. Whitten, an AFL Hall of Fame Legend affectionally known across Australia as “Mr Football”.
In the months before his death, E.J. Whitten showed enormous strength and spirit by turning his battle with prostate cancer into a positive awareness campaign for men’s health. The E.J. Whitten Foundation, a charitable men’s health organisation established shortly after EJ’s death, continues his legacy for men’s health.
The Foundation continues the spirit of Mr Football through its work with the Australian community by running its “Time to Test” and Indigenous men’s health programs. We also strive to keep the “fun” alive through our fundraising events including the E.J. Whitten Legends Game and Grand Final lunch.
Money raised from our events goes towards research and treatment trials into prostate cancer at the E.J. Whitten Prostate Cancer Research Centre at Epworth, and Monash University as well as towards the men’s health programs delivered throughout Australia.
We have raised over $14 million towards research and while we continue our efforts to find a cure for prostate cancer, our research, treatment trials and awareness programs have had an enormous impact on Australian men resulting in thousands of lives being saved.
The E.J. Whitten Foundation is extremely grateful to our supporters for helping us inspire men to take charge of their health and ultimately positively impact their lives and that of their families.
Your engagement helps make a difference to the one in six Australian grandfathers, fathers, brothers, sons, and families affected by this disease. Please share this story with your family and friends. We are truly grateful for your support.
